Mexican or South American Dramas are popular in the Philippines...it all started with Marimar (starring Thalia) in the 90's. I'm sure they're are being broadcast in some channels in Japan.

Ahaa, thalia...i remember her! she`s gorgeous and she has a great body! i remember her in maria mercedes and rosalinda...these two drama used to be the MOST famous Latino drama in my country...I agree with masterjz, i bet there is at least one local channel in Japan broadcast Mexican and south American dramas....This kind of drama spread all over the world, just like anime & J-drama....it`s all over the world.... :p

^ Yup...Maria Mercedes and Rosalinda too and a whole lot more Smile

Remake in our own version is also a trend for Mexicanovelas or Koreanovelas/Asianovelas.

Another thing is, the cover version song, especially the OST....people are crazy about the OST, so did the local artists...they tend to do the cover version of the song...sometimes it sounds good, sometimes it`s not....Hmm, let me list down popular Latino dramas in my country

-Maria mercedes
-Rosalinda
-Miss 3 hermanas
-Yo soy betty la fea
-La usurpadora
- Perla
-La intrusa
- Más allá de la usurpadora
-Rubí

These are the series that I watched and that`s why I can still remember the title..Soap opera question 365930

Btw masterjz, they are going to remake Maria mercedes in your country....I`m quoting this from wikipedia

In the Philippines, Andi Eigenmann an actress, will going to remake Maria Mercedes on late 2010.

Wow I never knew that, you just told me 'bout it and you're not even Filipino...lolz. Thanks for the info. Smile

All the titles you've mentioned had all been broadcast in my place. Rubi (Filipino version) is currently running its episodes on one of our local stations.

And yeah you are right...Covers of those OST's result in either positive or negative sound rendition.

If the people in Japan loves to watch American series/dramas...I'm definitely sure that they have interests too on other culture, as to say watching Mexican dramas of some sort. Japanese people differs in their viewing preferrence...Station networks will make a move just to make their viewers satisfied especially if the demand is imperative.

Lolz..yeah you've mentioned to me before that you used to watch "Pangako Sayo" that's why you knew her...unfortunately its not her, and I don't think she will fit to the character of Rubi...'coz Rubi is the Protagonist-Antagonist Main Character. In short Bad but Good, Good but Bad Soap opera question 861671

Betty La Fea has been remade on several countries including yours and mine Smile

Sometimes Remake is good if its in Movies...but if its in Drama...there were only some successful ones.

Are you following the series? hehehehe.....Ya, i remember the character...and she`s pretty also ^^

I think the best remake version of betty la fea is Ugly betty, the US series...

^ I prefer the original Betty La fea...there you can really see the difference after the overall make-over from Ugly to Pretty.
